hey guys, just wondering what the best way to go about removing 2 or 3 layers of glass down to the bare wood of my old garvey (shes a clammer, not a race boat, but a garvey none the less haha. i guess id consider it a "grandpappy" to some raceboats being its got some heritage in it.) I want to reglass the boat but need to get it down to bare wood first. is sanding the best? d.a. sander? belt sander? sometype of grinding disk maybe? its gonna suck regardless of how i do it. thanks for the help boys, see you in barnegat tomorrow as long as we dont get rained out..

thanks tony, i figure if i use this boat as a practice run i'll be ready for when i find a racer. wheres the best place to buy cloth and resin around here? i can order through lewis marine at my work but there prices are a little steep.

is she a planked bottom or plwood ??
because what tony's saying is right but add some eye protection too !
what i'm getting at is if shes planked when you take her down use slow cure 5200 applied to gouged out seams and if really clean west system the bottom p[lanks the apply the glass and she'll live 4 ever !!
i restore so many old woodies if it's newer than 1960 it's a modern boat !!,a labor of luv 4 surrr .
just mine 2 zents thrown in 2 an other wise sensible conversation

yes its planked bottom. what would you gouge out the seams with? and if i understand correctly you mean put on a layer of epoxy then wet out the cloth with another layer? is west systems worth the extra bucks? and where can i buy cloth and epoxy semi locally? i figure im gonna need around 5 gal to glass the hull and coat the inside with epoxy. this sound right? thanks guys.
